Traveling in 2009, yes but where?

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

The New York Times has published a list of 44 places to go in 2009. The selection is already given, but the list is interactive and you can vote for your favorite one, in order to advise other travelers.

ou-voyager-en-2009

From this selection, made by the North American newspaper, classical places are, obviously highlighted, such as Las Vegas, Berlin, Rome, but also others interesting destinations to discover such as Kazakhstan, Beirut,The Philippines or Bhutan.
Oddly, Cuba is in this list where as Americans are not allowed to go to this island: none planes take off from the US to Cuba. Actually, if they wish to see Havana and Cuban beaches, they must catch a plane from another country (Canada, Mexico…) and ask to not get a stamp on their passport.
Destinations are also classified by categories: luxury, family, ecology, culture, etc.

And you, where would you go this year?

@ f.larre

In the Pyrenees, at an altitude of 9438.86 ft, in the Pic du Midi, the best panorama of the region takes place. At the top, you will go into ecstasies looking at this amazing view; you will also find a museum about astronomy, a traditional mountains restaurant, an observatory-hotel with bedrooms identical as while researchers were living there. Each room provides a bed and a washbasin; WC and showers are at the same floor. Hosts of this shelter have voluntarily left everything identical. Moreover, sheets, blankets and towels are provided.
There is not a single night alike. You will get to the pick via a cable car, from the Mongie, at the bottom of Tourmallet saddle point.
You will have the head in stars for a night

In Yllas station, in Finland (Lapland), the first cable-car sauna has been inaugurated. We, all, already know traditional cable cars which bring us to the top of ski runs. From now on, in Finland, no need to wear a down jacket or a hat anymore to get the top.
Yllas station offers the most unusual cable car ever. Cabins are entirely made of pine, they can accommodate 4 people. These cabins will take you to the top of the mount Yllas, the highest of the region. Once at the top you will jump into the snow before getting into the main sauna, then going back down with the cable car as many times as you want.
As this 2km trip brings a huge success, it would be better to book in advance (2h minimum).
This 15 minutes of warm bliss will able you to see an amazing white landscape, while wearing only a towel.
This ski station is open from November to May; it has 61 ski runs and 28 ski-tows: a super G run, some runs for snowboarders and some others for skiers: It is a paradise for all skiers, experienced and novices.
The pass includes access to cable car-sauna and to the main one located at the top.
A concept which could be only thought  by finish.

By bengazi

Ben Keene and Mark James, 2 English guys, founders of this ecologic project, have had the idea to change Vorovoro (a desert island in Fiji Island) to a place with ecologic and moral values.
This project is planned to end up in 3 years and it is named: “Sustainable development” or “tribe wanted”. It is based on an entire respect of nature, no wasting, a green energy, a better waste management, and a life without swimming pool nether air conditional.

By Edaifx

An appeal was launch to anyone having some ideas to make this project growing. In 2006, 5000 participants are required, for a period of 1 to 3 years, full-fledged tribe’s members. They can follow the island’s progress permanently. More and more people feel concerned about this kind of tourism, also called ecotourism.
However, they can’t decide everything. They have to discuss it with Tui Mali: he is one of the fourth inhabitants on this island, with his brother and their respective wife. He has accepted to open his territory to bring more resources, especially in rising fishing and formation.
As project functioning, there are always 100 members out of 5000 on the island, honoring the golden rule: not spending more than 3 weeks a years in this future ecologic paradise. Politic on the island is democratic: 5000 participants, 5000 votes.

To compensate CO2 discharges, made by the plane which brought them to this island, they will have to support ecologic projects, such as sustainable energy funding.
This project will be over at the end of the year 2009, and a new island will be rendered to its inhabitants.

The city of Venice disguises with its best masks to do justice to the traditional carnival. Venice is a perfect scenario for this celebration; even if there is no décor, its environment is as magic as real.

Venice is made of 120 islands, joined with 400 bridges, a city that fights against floodings to protect its singularity and its beauty nonpareil. The Venetian school had an influence on some artists such as Rubens or Velázquez and had molded the baroque style http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baroque of the XVII century.
The spectacular yearly carnival is celebrated between the 13th and the 24th of February, and the beginning takes place at the St-Mark.

Throughout the XVII, nobility, already, used to dress up to be able to mix up with people going unnoticed. The carnival was enjoying its height through the XVIII century and manages to reach aristocrats and travelers from all Europe looking for pleasure and distraction.
It has been already 20 years that Venice became a huge cultural and touristic pole, where masks are the protagonists.
Travel to Venice to enjoy the 2009 edition and to live this magic that will bring you in a mysterious and fantastic world.
